Movie Fashion Watch: Beetlejuice

Tim Burton always has and always will be my favourite director. His creation Beetlejuice is not only a witty twist of macabre, comedy and spookiness but it's also riddled with a twisted and inspirational world of fashion. I'm going to show you how to infuse the imagination of Tim Burton into your everyday outfit...

Lydia Deetz
Coming from a rich, well respected family she is highly disconnected from the world and spends most of her time looking through her camera's viewfinder. Being an intense outsider of the people around her this allows her to be more in touch with the afterlife, thus being the most involved human with 'the other side' in the movie.

Who says you can't wear black in Summer? Lydia certainly pulls off her gothic style in the sun and so can you!! Starting with this sheer maxi dress is a perfect way to stay cool while still looking goth-chic. The feminine silhouette compliments figure perfectly, maintaining shape as the sheer drape hangs loosely down to knee length. Sky high platform heels enhance the length of the dress, giving the whole look a lift while the chunky sole's robust appearance avoids the risk of over-femininity. Accessories such as a lace choker and fingerless gloves emits an elegant Celtic goth vibe, a black sling bag with gold detail enhances elegance. Keep makeup dark, black nail varnish is a classic to support the black theme while a deep red lipstick adds a refreshing hint of colour. Finally, a camera ring is a nice finishing touch to salute Lydia's love for photography. You can view this outfit here.

Unholy Matrimony
Lydia's strong connection with the other side led her to meddle a little too far. Before she could say 'Beetlejuice' she found herself standing next to the very man, about to get married in a ceremony far from holy.

What would this outfit be without the colour red? I decided to opt for a more formal-casual look, due to the outfit being based on a wedding. A set of red straight leg trousers and matching blazer is the spitting image of Beetlejuice's suit, while the black lace crop top not only separates colour but follows Lydia's excessive use of lace. A pair of heels adds extra femininity to the look, in a  bridal white colour for a more traditional aspect of a wedding. Accessories such as a black clutch bag with gold detail and large hanging gold cross earrings are perfect formal statement pieces, the larger the earrings the higher the statement in this outfit. White nail varnish adds an individual support to the heels and deep red lipstick intensifies the appearance of red. You can view this outfit here.

Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice
The one and only Beetlejuice. Claiming to be a bio-exorcist and ruining one newly deceased couple's lives at a time he really is insane. Be careful though, whatever you do, don't say his name three times!!
What would a Beetlejuice inspired outfit be without including his signature black and white vertical lines? An oversized crop t-shirt is a perfect piece to involve this eye-catching pattern, without drawing attention away from the rest of your outfit. Wearing a black lace skater skirt is a delicate gothic touch, preppy and girly it has the ability to take away the 'sporty' look the crop top can sometimes have. Why walk when you can stomp? This pair of leather boots with their insanely huge soul (see what I did there) will catch eyes while balancing out femininity in the outfit. Accessories such as a stunning black lace choker with dark green stone detail is a prefect place to insert Beetlejuice's signature colour, green, into the outfit. A full finger claw ring adds a sinister look to your fingers and is a beautiful, original take on a classic ring. Dark green nail varnish is yet another subtle way of using green, lips are a good place to slot a little extra colour into your outfit therefore a deep purple lipstick is a great way to do this, while keeping it dark. Lydia's First Day at School
After learning more about the afterlife in a few weeks than a paranormal researcher would in his whole life, it was time for Lydia to learn something different. As many may find it boring, her first day at her new school was pretty eventful. Involving floating in mid air and dancing with ghosts, I wish my first day at school was like that!!
Who says you have to go to school to wear school uniform? A preppy school-like outfit can be a cute everyday look. Opting for a white crop shirt is not only a smart way to keep you cool, it's also a more casual take on the traditional school style. A short skirt with gothic mesh and lace detailing is a great way to fit in Lydia's typical school girl skirt, without looking like you're actually going to school. Adding a chunky sole and heel to a smart shoe instantly turns it into a more casual footwear and looks flattering with a pair of black knee-high stockings. What would a schoolgirl be without a backpack? This black leather backpack is stylish while still having the ability to hold all of your non-existent schoolbooks you might be needing. As we know, accessories are a great way to add colour into an outfit giving you the perfect opportunity to use that green lipstick you thought you would never use. Jewellery such as a green droplet choker also adds colour, matching your lips. Keeping it dark with the nails however, classic black nail varnish never goes amiss. You can view this outfit here.
